COVID Business Protocols & AB5: A Refresher – FMDiSC Monthly Meeting
June 11, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
COVID Business Protocols
As things reopen in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s uncertainty for business owners, management, and HR personnel. How will workplaces address returning employees and contractors, and what are some of the legal issues surrounding these issues? We will cover things like:
- Coming up with a plan on informing employees about the COVID-19 vaccination
- Determining whether your business should mandate, or recommend the COVID-19 vaccine
- Identifying potential issues with wages and hours, third-party and off-site employees, and EEOC guidelines
- Identifying potential issues with workplace safety, privacy, and workers compensation
- Proposing vaccination incentives
- Evaluating and addressing the impact of the anti-vax movement
AB5 – A Refresher
Before the wave of COVID-19 swallowed every other news story, we were alerted to the new labor law AB-5, and its impact on the gig economy and contractor work in the state of California. We will also give the group a quick refresher course on what the law is about, and discuss any recent Department of Labor rules for classifying independent contractors under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). We’ll also cover developing an action plan to assess your organization’s compliance with AB5 and how to mitigate any risk.
